New Laser Treatments
We’ve recently introduced high intensity or ‘Hot’ laser treatment to our repertoire at Clontarf Chiropractic.
Laser (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) has multiple biochemical and biological effects the most notable of which are anti-inflammatory, pain modulation and accelerated tissue healing.
Combination wavelength laser is thought to reach not only skin and subcutaneous tissues but can also penetrate tissue depths of up to 5 cm, making laser ideal for major muscle groups in shoulders/hips and lower back areas. For example - chronic low back pain involves many different tissue levels from subcutaneous and muscle tissues to deeper tendons and ligaments including the intervertebral disc. Laser therapy, to be most effective, must be applied in such a way as to produce significant biochemical changes in superficial, medium and deep tissues.
Laser appears to work particularly well for stubborn ‘frozen’ shoulders and is excellent for stimulating wound healing so is ideal post operatively.
Sessions take approximately 10 - 12 mins. Protocols vary but in general best results appear to be obtained with 2-3 sessions per week for 2-3 weeks.
